Val Verde County, Texas October, 2005: Photographer Laurence Parent climbs a rock at high water levels in the Pecos River in normally dry southwestern Texas, about ten miles upstream where it empties into the Rio Grande River at Lake Amistad. The Pecos was a major obstacle to early Texans travelling west to El Paso from San Antonio.
